Berdorf
August BIRGEN was born in 1869 in Birkelt/Berdorf, son of an Ackerer.
He became a chauffeur, and in 1890 he emigrated to Reims for “Ausbildung im Handwerk”.
In 1896 he married Maria BUCHHOLTZ of Junglinster, daughter of a Hufschmied. The couple married in Reims but must have soon returned to Junglinster where their first child was born in 1897. Auguste’s occupation was recorded as Ackerer.
In 1899 August BIRGEN and his family resided in Beringen where he worked as Mechaniker. He subsequently called himself Schlosser (1915), constructeur (1920) and Eisenbahner (1922).
By 1920 he had settled with his family in Übersyren.
August BIRGEN died in 1945 in Luxembourg-city.
